The Return of Supersized Jewelry in 2026

Written By Sarah Eros

Over the years, society quietly convinced us that we each belonged to one jewellery category: gold or silver. A part of finding your sense of style was figuring out which metal suited you. In a way, this turned fashion into strategy rather than a form of self-expression. With this question placed within society, we saw jewelry fall into a cycle of minimalism. Trends arose with tiny sunglasses, slick-back buns, neutral outfits, clean-girl makeup, and dainty accessories completely taking over. But fashion never stays quiet for long, and in 2026, jewellery is finally getting loud again.

From chunky earrings, oversized diamonds, stacked bangles, sculptural rings, and dramatic cuffs, we have been seeing these accessories dominate both the runways, red carpets, and streets everywhere. Large-carat diamonds and statement gemstone pieces are no longer being saved for special occasions, with jewelry lovers incorporating them into their everyday styling. Fashion is shifting away from minimalism and leaning back into maximalism. Part of the reason this trend has become so popular is because people are craving to make a statement. After years of dressing in a certain amount of uniformity, chunky pieces are becoming the main focus, giving minimal garments a chance to stand out, allowing the wearer to hold a bold space breeding confidence, luxurious, and impossible to walk by.

Credit for the return of bold jewellery connects to the rise of vintage/second-hand shopping. We see that thrift stores, flea markets, and vintage boutiques are filled with oversized pieces from the past. Cocktail rings, bangles, exaggerated gemstones, and chunky metalwork are back ‘in’. They naturally started reappearing in fashion as trends put masses on the lookout for upcycled, preloved items in the effort of sustainability, leading to a collection of one of a kind pieces. Unlike fast fashion accessories that often leave green stains behind, vintage jewellery carries character and old stories. This appreciation for one of a kind pieces has also heightened the demand for bold diamonds and unconventional gemstone cuts that feel more personal to the wearer, bringing stories to the table rather than having something mass-produced.

We have all seen the decline of statement necklaces within celebs and influencers. Instead, earrings have become the true centrepiece of modern accessorizing. Since hair is sometimes slicked back into buns, ponytails, and clipped-up styles, earrings are more visible than ever. We have seen the return of large hoops, a new style of raindrop earrings, and sculptural metallic shapes which have become essential because they frame the face, drawing attention to either one's makeup or neckline. If the earrings are dramatic enough, they often eliminate the need for any other jewellery.

Bangles- a personal favourite- have also made a huge comeback, especially through influencer vacation culture. Every Ibiza trip, European summer vlog, or beach club photo dump seems to include stacks of chunky bangles pushed up the arm or riding on the lower wrist to create those classic bangle sounds you can hear from miles away. The sound, movement, and layered look feel glamorous in a way minimal jewellery could never. It completes the look, and can even make arms look more slender and toned. The same maximalist mindset has extended to rings, where oversized diamonds and gemstone clusters are increasingly being stacked together to create that chunky chic look.

When you go to style supersized jewellery, you can go in two directions: less is more, or more is more. The look of stacked bangles and layered rings goes unmatched, but I would not overload every part of the body at once. Choosing one or two areas to highlight keeps the look intentional instead of messy. If the earrings are the statement, make sure the hair is not covering them. If the rings are oversized and stacked, keep them cohesive so they still feel curated rather than randomly placed on. You want it to look effortless but still keep character. The beauty of this trend is that there are no strict rules anymore. Jewellery is finally becoming expressive again and it's exciting to see where everyone will take it.
