Private Aviation Boom: Why More People Are Flying Private

Written by Felix Shentaler

Private jets used to be a form of travel that was thought to be exclusively for wealthy businessmen and A-list celebrities, but in recent years, the market for private jets has not only been growing– seeing record amounts of use– but diversifying. The skies are no longer dominated by the old men who used to rule it. With the number of internet influencers and online celebrities who make a living from content creation, the demographic is shifting rapidly. The barriers to use are being broken down, too, as private jets are becoming more accessible, affordable, and practical.

With business travelling back in full swing after years of navigating hybrid and remote work, the convenience just can’t be beat. And especially in a digital age, where even one viral video can lead to public recognition, the desire for privacy is increasing. So, year after year, more and more people are flying private. In 2025, a record 3.7 million private flights were made, and 2026 is projected to be even higher. There is an undeniable appeal in the privacy and luxury for affluent fliers that even business class can’t provide. More people are flying private more often, and the demand for flexible travel accommodations is rising every year.

There has been a large influx in use from younger working adults travelling for business with company-issued or chartered jets. Also, young entrepreneurs and internet personalities are finding it increasingly appealing to fly private. Can you imagine Charli D’Amelio flying economy?

There has also been a lot more mixing of business and pleasure, with more hybridized business travel, including a relaxed, flexible schedule. If you’re in Rome for work already, you know what they say.

Smaller private aircraft can offer far more landing destinations, letting you get around to smaller airports and locations that commercial flights may not offer. For those working in remote locations, such as those in film or television, having a reliable way to transport staff, equipment, and talent can save time and money, making it the most practical and economical option. It also appeals to people coming from, or flying to, destinations with no commercial airports.

Light jets make up a significant amount of private flying, and in 2025, this category of aircraft saw the most departures. Light jets typically seat 6-8 passengers and can travel a typical range of 1500 nautical miles at 400-450 miles per hour. These are ideal for shorter domestic flights, and the small size makes them capable of navigating to harder-to-reach destinations. For most private fliers, this practical choice is exactly the kind of thing they’re looking for.

In recent years, chartering a private jet has become much more popular among infrequent fliers. Needing to own a jet has been a significant barrier for many people, but with the ability to rent the aircraft, the cost is significantly lowered. Some startup companies offer private jet travel without the hassle of a membership fee or arduous booking processes. Chartering a jet has become a way for people to experience the luxury of flying private at a much lower cost. Once you’ve flown in the comfort of a private jet, it's hard to go back to cramped seats and crying babies.

Of course, with private flying, you can also skip the dreaded airport lines. For most, a flight is a means to an end– A way to get from one location to another– But the experience doesn’t have to be unbearable. Especially in larger jets, there are in-flight amenities that just can’t compare to anything on a commercial plane. Gone are the days of bland airplane food and uncomfortable seats. A huge perk of flying private is the comfort and luxury you get with it. Some jets may have fully enclosed bedrooms, some have full bathrooms equipped with showers, and of course, you never have to pay extra for your carry-on. With dedicated staff on board, you’ll never have to flag down for a packet of stale cookies and a $7 bottle of water.

Private flying may not be for everyone; the average person going on vacation may not want to spend as much on the flight, and would rather save it for other expenses on their trip. But for people who travel frequently and want to do it in style, making the travel part of the overall experience with a private jet is the way to go. The luxury experiences are second to none, and more people are realizing this every year. The demand from working professionals and young adults for private aviation is currently driving sales and flights, with no sign of slowing down. 2026 is likely to see another record-breaking year in private flights.
