Inside Fashion’s New Private Client Experience

Written By Ellia Romeiro-Lourenco

Congratulations you're invited! Private shopping experiences are becoming staple in the luxury fashion space. Giving clientele experience being the driving force of luxury shopping, companies are finding ways to interact with their consumers in a way that makes them feel more connected to the brand. Rather than simply being a tether to the products that they are buying. These intimate involvements are also intertwined in couture salons.

Among Chanel and Gucci. These two brands are known for being ahead of the curve and are always adjusting to the times in order to not become outdated. Taking a different approach than Gucci is, Chanel launched their Salon Prive in Holt Renfrew on Toronto’s Bloor Street. Canada’s most elusive spa is described as a diamond in a goldmine, for it is located in the back of the Chanel’s Beauty Boutique in Holt  Renfrew. Offering guests an intimate soundproof spa experience in which their needs are perfectly tailored to their identity. Hailing inspiration from the Chanel spa at the Ritz in Paris, this luxury spa is modelled after Coco Chanel’s apartments. Further adding a level of luxury comfort to the whole experience. Gucci takes a different approach to the idea of couture salons. Situated in Los Angeles in their West Hollywood location, Gucci has created a space in which their VIC’s can step into the world of their Hollywood heritage and experience a shopping trip unlike any other. With being an invite only salon, Gucci has maintained their luxury status in practicing the idea of being rare and desirable. This private shopping experience is a way for their staff and the overall brand to build stronger relationships with their very important clientele. By further securing a bond with them that will only continue to flourish through the brand loyalty that their clients dedicate to the luxury fashion empire.

The climb towards a world that feels like every tidbit of information about you is owned by a third party makes shopping and everyday life feel less personal and more calculated. Which is why privacy is the new thing in luxury shopping appointments. With experiences being unique to each shopper, invitation-only shopping appointments are breaking the ice of gaining back a semblance of anonymity and the idea of the individual. The human connection is such an integral part of life but it is also dire in the fashion industry. The clothing that we choose to dress ourselves with is the way that we communicate our personal identities to the world, and sometimes people need a second opinion when making such lavish purchases that will alter their closets for years to come. Having a private personal shopper can make all the difference to a luxury shopping experience. From colour analysis to the “Cabine” experience in which VIC have the opportunity to purchase custom pieces or even pre-order runway lookbooks in privatized show rooms a season prior to being released, private shopping is creating a personal connection from brand to customer in a way that makes them feel less like a number and more of a cog in the machine.
