Ferrari’s Luxury Lifestyle Expansion Beyond Cars

written by luc cormier

Ferrari has long been known as one of the most luxurious, if not the most luxurious, car brands in the world. Recently, the obsession with craftsmanship has begun to extend to fashion and lifestyle products. What does Ferrari know about these things?

They know a lot.

The brand’s fashion brand is not for everyone, but that’s the point. It is a whole new market compared to the avid fans of the cars or even Formula 1.

Ferrari and Rocco Iannone’s take on fashion is influenced by streetwear and motocross, with hints of avant-garde futurism. The 2027 Resort Collection has a calm, cool and collected streetwear energy. The brand extends its craftsmanship here with textile innovations such as what Iannone dubs the techno cotton drill, a rubber-cotton blend. On paper, that sounds impossible, but integrating the textile into structural jackets and pants is amazing. They also used a lab-developed denim jacquard, which gave the denim amazing structure and drape.

In Look 15, the techno cotton drill is on full display in a futuristic Ferrari style. The textile behaves like leather, but it is something else entirely. A wonderful example of subtle innovation and a throughline between the methodology of the fashion label and car manufacturing process.

Look 21 showcases the denim jacquard blend and its structure in a denim set. The wash of the “denim” is extremely rich and vibrant, which is likely a by-product of the jacquard. The addition of leather gloves adds to the motocross house codes. This collection was great because of the innovative use of textiles and the blend of house codes with the ever-changing sensibilities of luxury consumers. The collection takes on quiet luxury but is more streetwear-focused and more obvious about the unique quality of each textile.

On the Ferrari website, there is a section labelled “Lifestyle” that offers several games for laps and lawns. These items are another example of their branching into other markets using the logo.

The domino set comes in a box made of wood with a carbon fibre outer cover lined with leather and a prancing horse emblem. Each domino is emblazoned with the brand’s name and logo. The set is extremely detail-oriented and a great collector’s item. There’s not much to say about the other game sets; all are made from similar materials and serve as extensions of the lifestyle. An avid Ferrari lover is the ideal consumer, but beyond that, there isn't much of a market for these.

Branching further into home essentials makes more sense than this. Ferrari’s craft-focused take on a dinner table or chair would be astonishing. There have been collaborations with the brand, or furniture created using parts from their cars, but a bona fide Ferrari furniture line would be amazing. The synergy between fashion and Formula 1 only grows stronger by the minute, whereas the connection to home goods and gaming sets feels tenuous.

Ferrari has made a name for itself by imbuing every venture they take on with artfulness. As their empire continues to grow, it will be interesting to see which facet of lifestyle they bring their innovation to next.
