Fashion’s Billion-Dollar Beauty Expansion
Written By Ellia Romeiro-Lourenco

Guerlain Lipsticks, Gucci Flora, Hyaluronic Acid Serums, and Collagen Boosting Moisturizer are products that merely scratch the surface of the luxury cosmetics and skincare industry. The skincare industry has skyrocketed over the years with an increase in beauty influencers and celebrities dropping their skincare routines for the public to follow through with. But what luxury brands are quietly dominating the skincare market right now? La Mer and Augustinus Bader are just two of the skincare brands that are currently taking over the luxury beauty scene right now.
La Mer offers a variety of creams and cleansing products that consumers swear by. Their most popular product at the moment is their signature Miracle Broth, featuring a fermentation of sea kelp, along with vitamins and minerals that help repair and revitalize the skin. Similarly, Augustinus Bader is also keeping the luxury skincare industry afloat right now with their over 20 products spanning across skin, hair and body care that have been proven to provide optimal results. Backed by celebrities such as Hailey Bieber, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, Augustinus Bader’s products are rapidly increasing in popularity and demand due to their effectiveness.

With Eau de Parfum’s that last all day long, to the top concealers that hide undereye bags and lipstick that stays on after sipping a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, luxury makeup and perfumes are made with quality products to ensure peak performance and satisfaction that the drugstore brands just can’t keep up with. Fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and Yves St Laurent know a lot about pulling off a runway show, but they actually know quite a lot about building beauty empires along with maintaining their designer clothing status. YSL operates under a “brand halo” strategy, allowing them to work under a licensing agreement with L'Oréal, further allowing them (YSL) to maintain its luxury status while offloading perfume mass-production cost, distribution and global marketing to a fellow beauty corporation.

In collaboration with Pat McGrath, Louis Vuitton released their first step into colour cosmetics with their Satin Lipstick. With a hydrating and creamy finish that gives the wearer an elevated aspect of their makeup regime, they have created a lipstick that in its refillable packaging and product is something that is worth passing down to your loved ones as a keepsake. This luxury collaboration is further elevating the LV brand by bringing in a wider clientele, McGrath's makeup line incorporates the fashion house's signature DNA. The lipstick line features 55 shades, correlating to the Roman numeral LV, also ensuring that all of their packaging is now 100% refillable, turning this collaboration from not only incredibly chic but also sustainable. Yves St Laurent, is also breaking into the beauty industry with the launch of their YSL LIBRE perfume collection. With scents that range from floral to sandalwood musk, they have an array or fragrances that will satisfy any perfume lover. Due to its luxury status and claim, YSL was able to create a fragrance that has strong longevity and an overall aesthetic appeal.

The luxury beauty industry will continue to push new and innovative brands, and at the end of the day it is truly a survival of the fittest. With that being said each of these companies are dominating the space and will continue to do so, because of the reputation that they now have to uphold in the luxury beauty market.
