Cannes Film Festival – Top 10 best dressed 2025

Written By Sarah Eros

From sculptural gowns to effortless tailoring, The 2025 Cannes Film Festival proved once again why its red carpet is talked about worldwide. From head-turning gowns to sharp tailoring, our favourite movie stars brought the glamour that lived up to every bit of the hype. These are the standout looks that stole the spotlight.

10. Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett showed up in a beautiful custom black halter-neck gown from Louis Vuitton. What was loved most was the exaggerated take on the dress scarf trend, elevated with lace frilled detailing, which was crafted from repurposed fabric. It's appreciated that the stylist Elizabeth Stewart took a red carpet approach with this dress, turning a fashion trend into a timeless, elegant black dress on the red carpet. While this dress oozes class, it also silently yells 'drama!' Stewart suggests that fashion is rooted in constantly shifting perspectives, where combining contrasting themes can be effective—demonstrating that opposites can, in fact, attract.

9. Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne knows how to shock the world with her unpredictable looks. She shows up with her first look in a custom Miu Miu corseted burgundy dress with edgy dark eye makeup and a new black mullet, baby bangs hairstyle. This dress is stunning with its plunging neckline; structured and romantic. It was paired with a built-in corset bodice, which gave it that sharp, almost neo-gothic edge rather than a soft, princess look. And boy does she rock it. Cara speaks on her changing styles: “I love taking beauty risks. I feel like, in some ways, I’ve never grown up.”

Later, she shows up with a whole new look, back with her recognizable hair and makeup, wearing a custom Ashi Studio corset gown with structured panniers. The sheer gloves stunned paired with the strapless neckline, bringing in all sorts of elegance and sleekness. With this double look, Cara brought art and theatre to the red carpet.

8.  Andie MacDowell

A favourite of the night is Andie MacDowell's slip-style dress with black lace trim by Alberta Ferretti. The metallic material complimented her lean into dominating the silver-fox look. With its fluid draping, minimal structure, and popular slip-style silhouette, the dress evokes lingerie-inspired design, making it a clear reference point for contour and body-conscious designers. With this style of dress, we appreciate MacDowell keeping her accessories to a minimum so that our focus is drawn to the essence of her look, proving this is the best MacDowell has ever looked; gorgeous, full bodied blowout outlining glowing skin and a sharper-than-ever jawline. Maturity is in!

7. Daisy Edgar Jones

Beloved actress Daisy Edgar-Jones brought her signature charm to the red carpet by attending this year with two dark, stunning Gucci looks. The first look appeared on the red carpet, showcasing a glittering strapless gown. This rich burgundy colour is to die for paired with this minimal silhouette to let the colour and cut do all the talking, giving us a look that felt both timeless and controlled. Her silky chestnut locks serve as an extension, allowing us to center on the detail of her dainty accessories. Later, she showcased this amazing velvet top half and a flouncy sequin body. The plunging neckline pairs perfectly with this Boucheron necklace that swirled around her neck and featured a dangling teardrop diamond. To have these two looks go off each other was not only satisfying to see showcased, but executed perfectly in the red carpet lens.

6. Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid walked the red carpet in a custom black gown from Saint Laurent. This look was under some speculation because  this year’s festival prohibited dresses with any form of nudity, which has been rising recently on red carpets. No stranger to pushing the limits, Hadid showcased a super-high leg slit with an open draped back, pushing her luck with some side boob action. Staying within the rules, Hadid proved that restriction doesn’t limit impact. She turned this look into a bold, dramatic statement, as she so often does.

5. Simone Ashley

Simone showed up looking gorgeous in this Vivienne Westwood Spring 2025 piece from the house’s Mumbai show. This take on the classic frame was refreshing for all Westwood lovers because of its swan-like corset top and the sculptural design it boasted. This gown pays homage to the Regency-inspired fashion essence of this starlet's breakout role in the beloved show, Bridgerton. This white fabric on her brings out the beauty of her skin tone, and her hair drapes down perfectly to showcase the dangling earrings that tie the look together. We all know we are in an anti-necklace pandemic on the red carpet, but this is one of the few looks that I'm happy doesn't have a necklace, so all the focus can be on this Hollywood romance dress.

4. A$AP Rocky & Rhianna

These two love birds show up and show out every time they hit a red carpet. Fashion killer A$AP in Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello and iconic Rihanna in Alaïa, hit the festival's carpet and all eyes were on them. I love the sleek black tailored suit, which looks very sharp and fits in with classic Cannes menswear, but A$AP’s ability to blend elegance with personal style gives the look a fresh sense of luxury and confidence proving how personal style can reshape even the most classic silhouettes. The suit contrasts with Rihanna's bright blue dress perfectly, balancing Alaïa’s signature body-conscious tailoring with such fluid elegance. This was a great look for rhianna because her presence  gives it the modern glamour that is filled with confidence and class which continues to define her red carpet style.

3.  Dakota Johnson

Dakota Johnson stunned us all in a Gucci masterpiece that had the world quaking! Strapless, pink, and fringe? What more can a girl ask for! With a red carpet, it's easy for colours like this to get lost, but the soft, shimmering pink hue gives the piece a dreamy, almost otherworldly glow. Even with its shimmering look, the fringe brings us back to old Hollywood. Although this look does not include a necklace, Boucheron’s Laurier pendant earrings make up for it adding the perfect amount of drama. Her iconic bangs match with the fall of the fringe, making this look stand out amongst all others around her. Have we ever been disappointed with Dakota's looks? I think not.

2.  Amal Clooney

Amal Clooney stepped out in a timeless Sweetheart Galliano for Dior. This archival off‑the‑shoulder John Galliano gown for Christian Dior features a full‑length black dress with the perfect amount of train flowing behind her. The look of a sleek side black train on red carpet steps will just never get old.  The lustrous fabric caught the light and created a subtle sheen across the skirt and bodice. When we think of red carpet fashion, we think of a look like this. It's so beautiful it would hurt to look away! The cherry on top is her beautiful brunette blowout, with a classic black clutch and dangle earrings proving why an elegant black eveningwear gown will win time and time again.

  1. Jeremy Strong

Menswear deserves love too! Beloved Jeremy Strong swept the entire festival with his back to back look this week and closed with this custom Lanvin look in a bold, bright blue. Seeing blue on the red carpet is always so refreshing when done right, and this look was done fabulously. The vibrant monochromatic hue with the tailored jacket shows strong self-expression, proving how menswear can use colour as a powerful tool of confidence and presence. This look challenges traditional expectations of menswear by showing how colour and fluidity do in fact matter and can exist alongside strong tailoring and presence.  The best part of this look is the satin detailing, referencing this drapey take on the pussy bow tie. The pussy bow tie shirt paired with these insane Jacques Marie Mage sunglasses. We don't want dark limousine sunglasses on a red carpet; we want these funky, cool glasses that bring this sharp look to add some edge to tie the look together. It's the perfect recipe for red carpet menswear, and it left us wanting more of it!
